How to Integrate 'Twilight' into the Primary...
1. During spelling tests, use ‘Twilight’ sentences to put words in context. E.g. “MIRROR. Unlike other vampires, Edward the Vampire can see himself in a MIRROR, which explains the product he can deploy on his pretty hair. MIRROR.” 2. In Maths, ask the kids to turn decimal subtraction equations into word problems. One girl used the number of Jacob the Werewolf’s abs...

Things I Did Today That Were ACE #6
Today’s ace things are all to do with listening. Listened to nice affirmations from my little family. You see, every now and then we have affirmations and everyone has to say nice things about everyone else. This is something my wifey brought in. The person being affirmed sits in a special affirmation chair and the affirmers all sit on the couch. Today it was affirmed for me that (a) I have...

Contagion: contagious
Whereas other highly entertaining medical thrillers have bombs, cheeky monkeys and CGI germs flying around, Contagion tells its story through a kind of ultra-realistic parallel hyper-space and time. I have always enjoyed Steven Soderbergh’s movies. I like how he photographs his own movies under the pseudonym of Peter Andrews, taking control of the aspect ratio and the colour pallette. This...

Things I Did Today That Were ACE #5
This is a recent radar image of asteroid 2005 YU55. It’s passing between us and the Moon as I write this. Today I: Demonstrated the passage of asteroid 2005 YU55 to the Grade5/6 kids by having one kid hold my Moon globe and another kid hold my Earth globe 40 steps away, each step representing 10,000 kilometres and hence the 400,000 kilometres or so distance between Earth and Moon. Then I...

Things I Did Today That Were ACE #4
* Wagged Grade 5/6 sports. * Used Google Translate to make hilarious Indonesian sayings. * Hung washing on the line at night dressed only in my GO NUTS jarmie pants and the breeze was nice and the light from Moon and Jupiter was lovely. I was truly one with the Cosmos. * Chinese restaurant for dinner with my little family. * Witnessed impromptu comedy routine from my boys. * Sent a...

Things I Did Today That Were ACE #3
Found and posted a photo of a baby horse cuddling its mummy horse. Remarkable how baby horse managed to climb onto mummy’s shoulders and cuddle her. Also remarkable how mummy horse is eating a lovely green mouthful of grass. You can check it out here. Went to Bunnings Warehouse twice and did not feel anxious there once. Told my wife how beautiful her eyes were and she said something...
